i get intellectually that other ppl sometimes "do not want to talk about that right now" and i think my gut doesn't really grok this, like i always have a suspicion that they do in fact want to talk about it and are just doing a polite thing and secretly hoping i ask them more qs

It means "talking about this is going to upset me and I don't want to be upset right now because I want to be able to enjoy X, Y or Z"

yea i think i dont really understand that! i think i would rather be upset right now if it comes up? i think i have experienced this a handful of times before but it's p rare

I don't think so? I don't wanna definitively say never but I can't find an example of this when scanning my memories, nor do I think I would turn down feeling bad at a party

I'm on board with this. See the thing about it is, if we're both dunking our faces into that bowl of horror, we're connecting about the scariest and worst parts of being alive. And human connection is the only part of life that's worth it
