the degree to which innovation in even the slightest of edgy spaces has been curtailed due to apple is really underappreciated, I think. If you're making an app, you have to get approval from apple for any chance at success; they're like a defacto government

That's why libertarianism doesn't work. Monopolies/giant companies just end up as the government but with no democratic accountability

if we actually had a free market there would likely be more competition to choose from instead of apple

i hate how hard it is to make personal software for phones
Quote Tweet
today I wrote an app JUST for friends.
Google is asking me to submit a privacy policy and terms of use.
And Apple is asking for $100/year to host an app that expires in 1 year unless I publish it to the store
These app stores are just hostile to personal software

it's similar to how it's impossible to get a line of credit as a sole proprietor
the same way the government would much rather deal with more legible employees and corporations, apple prefers companies and masses of users rather than boutique software for niche audiences

App Store is a separate issue but how is Apple advertising on Twitter even remotely related to innovation?
Surely as a free company, they have the right to choose where to advertise and how to spend their hard earned money.
