I think Sam's track record on most issues is really good. I don't know what he claimed about Buddhism, but I expect you ran into a relatively rare case where he's wrong rather than a representative case.

idk there's something like, when i run into someone being extremely wrong on something that i imagine they could have been right about with not that much effort/research, i assume they are putting less effort/research into other things in general

probably made the correct inference, I'm just saying (IME) it turns out to be wrong in this case. Something can be a real sign that someone's a bad thinker, even if it's not a 100% reliable sign that never runs into false positives.
