If you're not vegan, I'm not gonna take you seriously when you say bestiality is "wrong because the animals can't consent". We don't care about animal consent in so many ways, and if u aren't pointing it out when ppl eat meat then dont wanna hear u pointing it out with bestiality

this especially falls apart when you consider versions of bestiality that include eager participation and no suffering on the part of the animal; e.g., the Louis c.k. bit on having a dog lick peanut butter off his balls like tell me that's wrong while you eat a hamburger I dare u

also re: ppl saying you have to eat meat but don't have to fuck animals, this is only kinda true! You probably use lots of animal products that aren't required for nutrition. If you only ate the bare minimum in order to sustain your health it would probably look very different.

If you actually cared about animal consent you'd probably eat the minimum possible amount of meat, would lay off eggs and dairy products, no more leather or gelatin. You think animals are consenting to give u those??

also guys jfc I'm not saying only vegans can have a consistent objection to bestiality, I'm saying only they can *if* your reason for bestiality being bad is consent.

I wish they'd just say they don't like it because it's "gross." That said, those understanding that animals *can* consent to sexual acts shouldn't be arguing in the opposite direction. Zoos shouldn't use society's globally horrific mistreatment of animals as a guiding light.

I think some people want a genuine debate with you about this... And some peole can't se this for what it is, as a minor celebrity figure talking about objectionable topics while mining data. Maybe some sense of world view validation, and reality testing too? not a big deal.

You can be non-vegan and still recognise killing/exploiting a sentient being you don’t need to is wrong. It just means your actions don’t align with your moral values. I.e you can still make a coherent argument even if you are a hypocrite.
