If you're not vegan, I'm not gonna take you seriously when you say bestiality is "wrong because the animals can't consent". We don't care about animal consent in so many ways, and if u aren't pointing it out when ppl eat meat then dont wanna hear u pointing it out with bestiality

this especially falls apart when you consider versions of bestiality that include eager participation and no suffering on the part of the animal; e.g., the Louis c.k. bit on having a dog lick peanut butter off his balls like tell me that's wrong while you eat a hamburger I dare u

also re: ppl saying you have to eat meat but don't have to fuck animals, this is only kinda true! You probably use lots of animal products that aren't required for nutrition. If you only ate the bare minimum in order to sustain your health it would probably look very different.

If you actually cared about animal consent you'd probably eat the minimum possible amount of meat, would lay off eggs and dairy products, no more leather or gelatin. You think animals are consenting to give u those??

Why is it not consistent to eat animals but not sleep with them for one's whole life? If you live an entire lifetime eating eggs without having sexual relations with a chicken, for example, would that not be a consistent objection to bestiality?

Not true at all. A non-vegan can consider some acts (e.g., sex acts) consent-requiring while others (meat-harvesting) not. For me, I need another person's consent to have sex with them but not to stare at them. Can easily see someone feeling the same for animals (w/ subst.).

I object for the same reason most people hold most moral positions. Our society punishes bestiality. It also punishes those who don’t join in the punishment. Because I don’t want to be punished, I’ll condemn bestiality. Even if my stated moral standards are indifferent to it.

I think that consent is a very good example of the dumbing down of life rules. Another example is the “five-second rule” (or “three-”): if something fell on a dirty shitty floor for 4 seconds, you can eat it, if it fell on a clean tiled floor for 6 seconds, you can't eat it.

People aren't grossed out by bestiality (or incest, or other sexual taboos) because of issues around consent. It's because those behaviours are evolutionarily maladaptive, while something like eating meat is adaptive and therefore basically normal and healthy even if it is cruel.
