It would seem he got the utilitarian arithmetic of the hedons and dolors on his ethical spreadsheet wrong.

If it seems I’m implying EA is a hollow moral framework popular among calculating sociopaths otherwise devoid of any animating moral impulse beyond social posturing, it’s not a wrong read.

I'm pretty convinced that every person I've met that has strongly advocated for EA is deeply deeply evil

maybe you haven't met enough? I'm not the biggest EA fan but a lot of the most passionate EAs I've met are real young, idealistic, earnest people. Worst you could say is they're misguided/naïve, not evil. Ofc not denying the sample you met tho
I’m sure most EA fans come from poverty and are inspired by real hardship to make the world a better place

I still sorta think EA is gonna take over the world (benevolently) in the long run. What we just saw is the outcome of one MIT freshman from 2016. The movement is exponentially larger now. We may see five SBF-level actors by 2028. Hopefully they won’t repeat the same mistakes

Certainly the EA brand is as doomed as the FTX brand is now
young and idealistic is a terrible combo. The greatest atrocities are always committed in the name of the ideological greater good

"Real young, idealistic, earnest people" are the ones who end up burning everything to the ground, or not achieving anything.
