i think this is generally true, and i've been assuming new twitter leadership knows this and is anticipating doing some subtle way to communicate it, like a different color of checkmark for actual public figures. but maybe i assume too much

Okay. I know you didn't want to hear this, and it isn't pretty, but: The old bluecheck was vital to how Twitter really, actually worked. Twitter was the place where you could find celebrities actually talking to each other, in 280 chars so it wasn't all gibberish legalese.

Hmm. I dont know if I buy this. This doesn't feel like rapid iteration and risk tolerance. It feels like a man who spent way too much on something he had no knowledge of for the memez, immediately realized he was in over his head and has been desperately scrambling.
