how i shower infrequently but don't stink: my guess is there's some kind of microbiome balance going on; I first noticed this once when I went camping, and then after I got home and showered with heavy duty soap, found that I stunk *way* worse the next day. 1/

i wouldn't be surprised if showering is following the same kind of principles as going no-poo for hair; if any random person who shampoos daily, stops shampooing, their hair will be horrible and greasy. But if you are persistent and careful, your body adjusts. 2/

but this isn't perfect, and different ppl have different kinds of bodies, with different activities and sweat levels. I *do* still do maintenance to handle getting stinky in between showers! 3/

I am careful not to use soap on my armpits, because that seems to increase the smell; I usually scrub hard with a wet washcloth, and then put on deodorant, and this works great. I also use a bidet, and wash my genitals often. 4/

I find my scalp tends to get stinky if I sweat but don't have a way to air out my hair immediately afterwards. So after exercise, I loosen up my hair and scritch the scalp a lot to get airflow. Times I don't do this, I get really stinky. 5/

I don't use any body moisturizer. I live in a humid area so this helps, but also I don't like having products to build up. I do wash my face and brush my teeth daily, wash my sheets 2x a month, do mostly normal hygeine otherwise.

I'm not surprised that you don't smell not fully showering often, but I am surprised that you don't have dead skin accumulating, balling up, and flaking off
