Highly recommend reading "Dawn of History". Egalitarianism (and its twin libertarianism) were the predominant social values in many pre-Columbian societies. The authors argue that the Enlightenment happened in response to ideas brought to Europe from the Americas

The author of that review doesn't dispute that "there were real and serious intellectual contributions from Native Americans in critiquing the inequalities of European civilization, particularly from the articulate and debate-based Iroquoian-speaking nations"
