On the upside, economist Emily Oster has written some of the best, most evidence-based books about parenting ('Expecting better', 'Cribsheet'). On the downside, regarding this idea: nope. We will not forget the self-righteous, sadistic, moral posturing re. Covid.

PS the problem isn't that mainstream media & its followers got things wrong. People get stuff wrong. The problem is that they expressed 100% certainty about their views, with zero epistemic or moral humility, & were willing to ostracize, demonize, & fire anybody who disagreed.

Granted, humans generally are not very good at epistemic or moral uncertainty, & tend to get very partisan & tribal. However, I didn't see many vax/mask/lockdown skeptics calling for institutionalized punishment of people who chose to get vaccines, wear masks, or stay indoors...

Nobility obligates. There is a greater imperative for those in power to be sensitive to the needs of those out of power. There's a responsibility to consider the integrity of the institutions one represents beyond the personal & so there is a heightened need for accountability.

I'm not sure the "other side" was right on accident. At first, when there was big uncertainty, the right was less resistant to measures to reduce transmission. It's the failure to modify the measures as the truth came into focus that is most galling. And the heavy-handedness.
