William James suggested the common ingredient of all religious belief was "perfection is eternal". That seems a little too intellectualised to me. I suspect the common ingredient is more like "good will somehow win in the end".

Grew up in a household with strong religious beliefs lightly held. My impression was more "here is the good news; make something with it" (lit. gospel). I read that early Christians heard it like that too. Quick google:
