in HotD, an evil character was portrayed with a foot fetish in a gross/unsettling way. On an object level there's nothing technically wrong with this, but "bad character has weird sexual interest" is a common trope and feels like it dehumanizes ppl with weird sexual interests.

like, there's ppl out there with foot fetishes who feel ashamed of having a foot fetish (or other fetishes!), who sat down and watched HotD to see their preference portrayed through an evil character as a thing the audience is supposed to be disgusted by. Seems kinda shitty.

I think you’re a bit off the mark on this one. Thing about HotD is that they’re all horrible people except Viserys. I don’t see Larys as unusually evil, just another player. Also, I don’t think they were mocking the foot fetish itself. Maybe the actress didn’t want to get naked.

What does a villain engaging in a weird fetish, positively portrayed look like? Example? Closest thing that comes to my mind is the first sex scene of Chuck Rhoades in Billions. But neither was he an outright villain nor it was necessarily portrayed positively (neutral at best).

I'm pretty sure the foot fetish is downstream of him being clubfooted instead of evil (tho the thing where he's into her paying him like that is probably downstream of being evil)

You mean like a girl marrying and having children with her brother? Or an uncle and niece? Or men waiting until girls are 14 years old to be comfortable with having sex with grown men? Those seem to have been portrayed rather positively.
