They worked out good solutions to the problems facing them, which then changed, and then they worked out good solutions to the new problems, till, toward the end, there just weren't many good solutions. So, mostly.

You should qualify by age. I've noticed that as I aged, got married, had kids etc, I was better able to understand my parent's perspective.

Another interesting one might be how many of their parents people consider to be good parents.

I dont agree with all their positions and they don't agree with all mine.
We bicker on some important stuff even now.
But when I reflect on how I was raised, I cant find fault in their motivations anywhere.
If my kids grow up and can say the same, then I did okay.
