u werent really homeschooled unless u had the experience of asking a group of people who the 'brittney spears' person they were talking about was and having the room fall silent and stare at you

we had TV, but didn't watch stuff like MTV, and had a thing installed that would censor any potentially adult themes

I wasn't homeschooled but I did know some kid who wasn't allowed to watch anything other than BBC1 & BBC2. The UK only had 5 TV channels, and the three commercial channels were deemed to be a bad influence by this kid's parents.

I get that but what about all the other little things, like going to the grocery and seeing all the magazines etc

we were instructed not to look at the magazines in the store, i remember just as a habit averting my eyes
Reminds my of scientologists being told to not ever look at or listen to anything critical of scientology, so they never know about all the bad things that those that left reveal about the cult.
