it feels like both categories are doing the *same kind of thing*, which is building models of the world to control the world and make predictions. Both of them fail when they try to use this to point at the understructure, imo
That's why I've found myself enjoying secular occultism. I'm openminded about the supernatural but lack belief in gods as sacred authorities. I recognize god(des) exist conceptually, and I believe in magick, but I think many paranormal predictions are inaccurate.
Yes, we look for patterns, maybe in hopes of controling the universe, to maybe understanding the universe's fundamentals, down to know if I'll need an umbrella
Is the commonality you see also universalism? This is a way in which “The laws of physics are the same in all relativistic reference frames” and “scorpios are horny” have similar logical structures.
