the overton window is a distant memory for me as i permanently destroy my ability to e.g. run for office. this is good! Also my friends in the former category are important and essential too! If we *only* had ppl like me screaming out of the woods we'd be doomed.

I've had a similar thought about the 2 kinds of people the world needs: wary fence-sitters who always think of counter-arguments & activists/extremists who stick to one ideology. The former neutralizes the latter by critiquing them, the latter are needed to propel social change.

Both of these are social categories and neither represents the actual doers that quietly put their heads down and deliver results anonymously. It's a fucking shame this is a perception of how society works

I wrote a book on innovation that features this - the necessary relationship between a conscientious curator and a chaotic creative. The former writes the textbook. The latter's contribution is written as a fairy tale. Dragons. Princesses. I couldn't help myself.
