Ok kids being socially brainwashed into transitioning is a thing and we should stop it, but also I am pretty wary of people saying *all* childhood transitions should be unequivocally stopped. There's absolutely some people out there for whom it's actually the right choice!

Much as I'm wary about people trying to point out people who feel harmed by sex work as an excuse to ban all sex work, because it clearly overlooks the many people like me, I'm wary about people failing to take into account the diversity of trans experiences here.

I am not saying the issue is easy, or that there's a clear way to never make an error, I'm just saying that the answer of "ban it all" is going to actually, genuinely hurt a lot of people, who will view you as an enemy who doesn't give a shit about them.

But lots of rules - drivers's licenses, pension eligibility, school leaving, for example - use age as a pragmatic proxy for complex social decisions. The more complex, the more risk averse, is applied widely.
