i'm against a lot of progressive feminism cause it infantilizes women and i'm not down with that. i want a feminism that demands equal levels of respect *by* infusing women with agency.

the difference here is "we're gonna fix that problem for you by demanding society change" vs "we're going to empower you to fix that problem for yourself"

only found out recently that Simone de Beauvoir said that women had to be *denied the option* to be housewives and mothers because otherwise too many of them would choose that. pretty fucked up, i used to think she was cool

Yes and respecting the agency that is already there even in perhaps passive forms. Many times in my life i thought i had been manipulated as i was normed to see myself as object to the male subject. In reality it was mutual manipulation, & this couldnt be healed til it was owned

My mother's feminism was basically
1) Women can be as awesome (and as awful) as men
2) Now get the fuck out of the way, awesome coming through.
This continues to be my version as well.

if I think of what I want for my daughter it's like "don't let anybody treat you worse for being a girl"
(I also want to teach my son to not let anyone treat him worse for being a boy)
is this progressive feminism?

This is like demanding a form of communism that works.
Sounds lovely, shall never happen.
