my thought in hypotheticals like this has always been i'd just learn to juggle or somersault really cool or something and start street performing. this was always the default/obvious option to me and im having a shock moment to realize its not also default for everyone else

Periodic question: If you woke up homeless, hungry, with $20 to your name, and had none of the connections you have now, how would you get off the streets?

assuming you’re serious, busking doesn’t make enough $ for housing. you can do this and still will need to apply for services (section 8, foodstamps, etc) use shelters (not always available nor safe), etc. even if you get a min wage job, it’s nearly impossible to find housing.

how long ago was that? and where? the prices of living and rent have gone up but minimum wages aren’t matching. a landlord can reject you if you have too low of an income (most want 3x the amount of rent you)

about ten years ago, in idaho. if you're down to have roommates, you can get rent dirt cheap. My sister was spending $200/month on rent a few years ago!

idaho is *probably* more affordable than most places esp major cities. ten years ago, i was paying $550 for a place w/ 3 other roomies in a major city. i’m very lucky if i can find a place for $750 now. also curious as to where you’d be busking that there’d be enough patrons

people are born in cities & can’t afford to move, lack of job opportunities in lower price areas, lack of public transit/accessibility, no local family/acquaintances to help, lack of shelters/resources, & if you’re poc is the area unfriendly to you, etc
