Wow, I... don't like this? I generally don't mind characters being revamped to be more inclusionary but there's something about the Joan of Arc story specifically that feels like the subversive womanness is really important/inherent, making her nonbinary weakens this theme.

idk this is kinda an extreme example but it feels like making rosa parks hispanic if you don't like it, you don't have to see it, she's not being stolen and depictions of her as a black woman will undoubtedly continue but it still feels like it's insulting the story?

nonbinary people have near zero representation in old stories because of the enforced gender binary they don't have much of their own old stories because those stories have been suppressed

Women who led armies like Joan of Arc also have near zero representation in old stories! There's such a miniscule number of them, why steal from one underrepresented group for another? Take from a larger group

but I think he means that, in this case, Joan being a woman is pretty central to her story and to her, hmm, self-id? (insistence on purity, nature of her visions, defense during the first trial etc)
