restating my stance towards trans issues: I strongly support ppls right to transition, gender dysphoria is a real thing, use preferred pronouns! Be kind! Also don't believe most ppl have ability to make their brain parse ppl as their preferred gender and it's cruel to demand this

literally that's it. I am down to, in almost all circumstances, treat trans ppl as they want to be treated. Bathroom use, inclusion in their preferred gender groups, insurance covering transitioning cost, absolutely yes. I just draw the line at ownership over other ppls minds

This is generally what gets me labeled a 'transphobe' in some of the more radical trans communities. It's not enough that I support trans stuff in every practical way - the fact that I talk about the automatic perception of gender as beyond our control is the unacceptable thing.

this is such an odd thought/take to return to, over and over. i'm not sure i understand why you want to go out of your way to specify this. no serious person is demanding you parse peoples gender, are they?

i spend a lot of time with trans people, both IRL and online, and this is not an element of discourse I've ever encountered. It's never come up! I believe you when you say it's been your experience, but I think how unusual it is relates directly to the volume of backlash you get
