restating my stance towards trans issues: I strongly support ppls right to transition, gender dysphoria is a real thing, use preferred pronouns! Be kind! Also don't believe most ppl have ability to make their brain parse ppl as their preferred gender and it's cruel to demand this

literally that's it. I am down to, in almost all circumstances, treat trans ppl as they want to be treated. Bathroom use, inclusion in their preferred gender groups, insurance covering transitioning cost, absolutely yes. I just draw the line at ownership over other ppls minds

This is generally what gets me labeled a 'transphobe' in some of the more radical trans communities. It's not enough that I support trans stuff in every practical way - the fact that I talk about the automatic perception of gender as beyond our control is the unacceptable thing.

if i had a button i could press that would make my brain automatically parse you as the gender you wanted to be parsed as, I would press it. But I don't have that power and I am a lil freaked at the pressure (thousands of ppl calling me transphobe!) to pretend I do

every trans person I’ve met has been very forgiving of people who misgender them. it’s more about showing that you respect them I think. maybe there’d be less pressure to not mess up on guessing gender identity if we allow ourselves to make mistakes and apologized for them.

i really can't think of a single trans person i've met (and i've met lots) who cares about the internal perceptions of anyone other than, like, close family and friends, and in those cases it's obviously a gradual process

I'm unsure of what you're getting at here? Dos this mean that if a Trans person asked you to use pronouns aligning with their gender identification, but YOU don't see them the way, you feel you shouldn't have to use the preferred pronouns?
