The most shilled pieces of knowledge of all times have good to be quantum mechanics, godel's theorem, and game theory. Everyone pretends to get them just bc they sound cool 😂😂😂

the proof of godel incompleteness is i think a valuable exercise in learning to make precise conceptual distinctions, you have to keep rock-solid in your head the difference between provability and truth, eg. QM and game theory are useless 😎

i read GEB once years ago and was really struck by this, i came away from it really having a sense that you *can't* extrapolate, that the thing just is exactly what it is and no more, and it made me hyper aware of all of the subtle extrapolations i was doin to all other concepts
In recent times constructive math has made that lack of extrapolation such a powerful and delicate tool. Like you can nest incompleteness inside incompleteness inside incompleteness until the only thing that’s left incomplete is a tiny little dot that you can assume anyway
