My experience with subscription models is mostly Onlyfans, which has 50% turnover a month. Idk what Substack's paid turnover is but it's way smaller and I can't *believe* how much more mentally relaxing it is. Not having to replace 50% of your subs monthly is an absolute delight.

Despite the income, with 50% turnover a month, do you really have product-market fit?

i had an AVN Stars account because they allowed a lot more on their platform. i never put sex or nudity on it; it's where i put gun videos.

I suspect the turnover is lower but the consumption/interaction is too. any data on this hunch?

Moderately surprisingly that intellectual stimulation is more stable than sexual stimulation

the ppl that use OF as subscription must be super low. most ppl probably just pay, download and unsubscribe, its more like one time purchase.

Omg! How does the business work with that level of turnover. What am I missing.

That’s been my experience with OF too.
I also have a paid substack, and I’ve found the subscribers there are remarkably patient. Sometimes I post a lot, sometimes not. They’re just happy to support me, it seems. There’s no “urgency” for them like with OF.

Yeah. When I realized this, I stopped putting much effort into my OF page, and put the bulk of my effort into marketing. Whether my page was “meh” or “high effort” never made much difference in customer retention. The model incentivizes mediocrity. (Which I embraced, because $$$)
