I try very hard to consider individuals on their own merits and to use a wide and charitable definition of "merit". But it's not possible to claim that subconscious biases don't have an effect. All I have to do is look at my social network and preferences become evident.

I think we evolved to feel awkward around people who don’t look like us, but it is our responsibility to override those ape tendencies.

I voted very because it's true, under current mainstream semantics, which consider racism any negative opinion on a culture that has ethnic links as well
