i feel kinda tribally aligned with EA, like facing the outside i splay my body in front of them like 'get back, these are my people' but i don't consider myself an EA; somethin about their vibes that dosent quite align with my vibes. i think they need more balls. 1/

im not sure it's really about getting things done? like, if ur a politician in 1985, u could argue that being vocal about supporting gay ppl wouldn't make things happen in the world, it's too contrarian, and valuing ballsiness at the sake of practicality is bad so don't speak up

this is kinda an aggro example, but i feel like... "getting things done" is kinda a distraction from the real issue? Like there's a way in which being clever and contrarian in this example *is* in fact getting things done, tho it might not look like that in the nearer term

And I really value actions that come out of strong principledness, because it moves culture slowly towards something that is healthier on a deep level, even if it doesn't look immediately practical right now

a personal example is sex work; i've never felt the faintest hint of worry about sex work from the rationalists, people don't worry about their reputations in dating me, whereas with EAs there's a bit more concern, like will ppl take them less seriously if they're with me

which is reasonable to do, much in the same way worrying about speaking up about gay rights as a politician in the 80s is a reasonable worry! but I still would rather be the politician that takes the stand, and value others who do so too.
