That’s not what societies say though. What they say is “Irrespective of what’s good for *you*, things need to be oriented a certain way for this particular society to thrive”

But what if I truly don’t? I genuinely don’t know how those various lifestyles would each change me and my life outcomes. Ideally there’d be trustworthy wisdom to guide us, instead of whatever we currently have

It seems like society only has a problem when you try to move from one to the other. If you are promiscuous in your early years, then want to settle down. Most stable and worthwhile partners aren't going to be cool with that.
