maybe i'm really slow but is part of the reason people get so mad at stuff I say that I find innocent is that they're parsing my beliefs as being *social*? like they interpret the beliefs as existing for fully social reasons and don't see the actual raw belief in there?

I suspect part of what's happening is that people are trying to predict "what sort of person could I meet that would say this" and then infer things about you that are false based on their (sometimes very faulty) prediction and then blame you for what they predict about you

Many people have built their lives around beliefs that formed when children (religion, etc). Questioning those beliefs sincerely might mean drastic changes in one's life. Fear and disgust are defensive mechanisms to prevent you from even trying to root them out.
