the occasional "this was good, you should write more about this" comment fuels sooooo much of my writing. it's stupid how effective it is.

years ago I had a dinner with a confident, well known person who told me my writing was great and I HAD to write a book. That event is now like an magical artifact I keep tucked away in my mind, and i go hold it to my chest when I need to be infused with motivation in dire times

The power of positive reinforcement is magical. I wonder how many great works were catalyzed by small compliments, and conversely, how many masterpieces never materialized, due to an absence of social support or encouragement.
