I saw most of these sites in America while I was in my late teens / early 20’s living life on the road. Had a tent, canned food & picked up odd jobs along the way to pay for fuel & other expenses. 1 doesn’t have to come from privilege to enjoy our most precious outdoor resources.

Being able to go where you want and pop up and get odd jobs without suspicion or bias is a privilege many don't have. You must have had the confidence that doors would open whenever you needed them to. Also, you had a car.

I bought a used Jetta Diesel for $1000 working in High School and got a trade newspaper in every town I visited to see if there was a way to pick up $100. I’m not excusing the privilege of traveling while white but seeing America is more accessible than people realize.

Thats good that it worked for you. I am fortunate to have seen a lot through road trips as a child and an aduIt. I just think telling people to "get out more" is kinda dismissive of all the factors that go into access to travel.

real privilege here seems like having a brain wired for adventurousness/risk taking; i had the privilege of being highly risk-tolerant and so did stuff like quit jobs and travel on little money; my sister, for example, has a much more risk-averse personality, and never did this
