i gotta say, being really good at sex work is kinda a mindfuck, THREAD I imagine it's not like being really good at... idk getting your phd and then working at a job or something, which is clear and outlined. You know why and how you're good. But with sex work it's ??? 1/

Like, my first thought is "it's not that hard to be good at sex work, cause you're selling a product that just fell into your lap." But then I'm like, "why aren't way more people good at sex work?" There's tons of women significantly prettier than me who make less money. 2/

And then I get confused about to what degree my appearance factors into my success; lots of people say I'm hot, but also tons of people say I'm mid; how hot I am does seem to be a direct tradeoff against how skilled I think I am. If the mid ppl are right then I'm a genius. 3/

And there's no clear markers of how much ppl should take me seriously, like there are in the academic/corporate world. For example, I was once did an interview they titled "intellectual porn star"; after commentors complained, they removed the "intellectual" from the title.

And it's like, which is it?? Am I hot or am I smart? It's impossible to be both. Some background part of me just wants to know which label society is giving me, so I can start self-narrativizing in a way that integrates better with external perception.

have you thought about framing it like it's rare to be perceived as both hot and smart? which maybe kind of answers the question even just down to numbers, what % of sex workers use 'smart' as their niche and what % use a very specific kind of smart, again comes down to rarity
