Do I write for the people who have little familiarity with the stuff I know about and thus lose the interest of my peers, or try hard to interest my peers, have fewer successes, and alienate the general public? This is the question that interrupts a lot of my writing.

I just went to a conference where I casually repeated an idea that's very normal/unimpressive in my circles, but the people I told it to were very impressed. And I felt weird, like should I say more unimpressive things to people who will be impressed? Will my peers disregard me?

Only two types of writing work for me: 1. Writing to my past self - Explain my mistakes publicly to help others avoid my errors. 2. Writing for my future self - Explore ideas I want to see in the world and send them out as beacons to attract people who share my missions.

Depends on your goal. I'd you are writing for $$$ or publicity, probably do the less impressive content for a wider audience. If you are writing to learn or making connections, write for your niche audience. Fwiw, I bet the latter will be 10x more rewarding

If you're trying to make it as a writer, you should write for as broad an audience as you can. If you're writing for fun and intellectual stimulation, then the opposite. Just my 2 cents.
