I know it's tough out there for writers, but please don't send submissions to multiple publications in parallel. There's nothing more infuriating than reading & considering a piece carefully, deciding to accept it & then hearing "oh, actually, it's appearing somewhere else." 1/

I've beber had to deal with any part of this industry, but wouldn't ideally it be something like, i submit a piece to several editors and tell them all it's been submitted to several, and it's first come first serve on the offer? like competition seems good?

If I received that mail, I wouldn't read the article, though. I'd just reply saying "get back to me if you want to publish with us." I'm not wasting my time on an article that might end up elsewhere.

yea the incentives seem bad here in a way that seems like it should be fixable? Like isn't it common for writers to have difficulty getting published, and waiting two weeks for each submission seems ridiculous to me
like there's gotta be some buildable system that helps both sides prioritize their time here
