Lately I've been tryin to do more Srs Person things, like I'm about to go to a conference and I looked at the other people going and they're all like, People In Suits who Founded Businesses and have Academic Degrees, and then I get a feeling like I shouldn't be horny on main 1/

but like, what is that? I'm feeling sheepish, like I should be professional and pretend I don't have a sex drive and not talk about my pooping habits or eating poop or my deepest insecurities. But that's weird; it's weird to be in a culture that quietly, subtly suppresses that

It's like people are interacting through avatars of themselves when it comes to these worlds. And maybe that makes sense, like they *are* avatars, they represent a company or something where being honest and vulnerable would damage their work.
But man, that really sucks for them

I'm so grateful my life has taken me to a place where I can enjoy relatively high vulgarity without it threatening anything important, where who I am is really aligned with what I'm doing. I'm very lucky.

I empathise. I share a lot less than you and still worry about seeming professional. I guess you can see yourself as pushing the boat out so others can exist in the gap. also really cool to hear you are doing conferences etc, I think you are great on here and I'd like more

A corporate environment is simply not the place to be genuine and risk offending others or culture clashes. You should just focus on getting work done and being genuine elsewhere.

Think you've also described a big reason why a blue-collar environment can be more enjoyable than office life. Just feels more down-to-earth in some ways

I separate work from life. I've done that for a long time. They are colleagues at best, not friends. I don't want to know about their lives and I'm not interested in sharing mine. When I'm not at work I don't think about the job or the people. They might as well not exist.

Well,it's a conference. You might want to talk about your poop, your insecurities, you. I'm pretty sure nobody else does in this particular scenario

Maybe it is pretending and suppression for some, but for others, it might be something simpler like keeping their associative network more targeted. When you focus on certain aspects of existence, these ideas/themes tend to stay in the foreground. It doesn't have to be sinister.
