So most of my toenail came off due to trauma, it's hanging on by the bottom 20%. What's interesting is the first few days, I was like, I'm gonna just tape the toenail down and leave it alone until it naturally grows out or falls off. I had a serious aversion to fucking with it 1/

But today it suddenly flipped to a really strong urge to get as much of it off as I could, it's sort of 'itching' at me. This is interesting - is there some biological process that knows its healing rate that flipped to sending my brain signals of 'fuck with ur toe now'?

If the toenail has become detached from it's base then it can harbour bacteria underneath. There are no currently described urges to, as you put it, 'fuck' with wounds, but if there is one to be found, I reckon it has something to do with infections.

When I was a kid, my cousin dropped a pétanque ball on the toe, the nail was black and painful for… a long time.
