i tried to watch bo burnham’s inside recently and i couldn’t make it past the first 20m or so. i got really bad vibes from it. not just that he was in a lot of pain but like actively filled with contempt for himself and his audience. the song with the sock felt demonic

A friend told me it was "cathartic" that it expressed how shitty the pandemic was. I think they felt seen, and a little less alone because they knew that Bo was feeling the same way.
but anyway yeah I hated Inside, I feel shitty enough without pumping it into my blood like that

Only watching a bit of something and forming an opinion is fine but saying “I don’t understand why people liked it” without finishing it just feels like… the answer is in the question?

If you have not struggled with depression and self loathing before, I can understand it being an uncomfortable watch. However for those who have, having someone nail your thought patterns through a comical lens is extremely gratifying.

my take: its enjoyable or amusing to people who share a certain forms of trauma with Bo.
Exactly what form of trauma, I'm not quite sure, but people who've been broken in certain ways may enjoy it more than those who don't share such similarities.

I thought it was decent but a bit long. And the sock song was kind of idiotic.
Overall, I see it as a (pethaps unintentional) parable about how excessive fear of covid can lead to deterioration of mental health.
I liked it because someone was expressing their raw self in an entertaining artistic manner. Plus the skill he shows of his craft (music, video, and editing combined). Similar to mrgirl’s main YouTube channel
