I’m sorry for over-sharing, but I read this last night and started crying. I started watching porn at ten years old. I don’t think I’ve ever truly “enjoyed” sex the way most people seem to. I’ve been trying to quit this year, but it’s hard when the hits are always in your pocket.

I think it’s just a really really hard thing to talk about, as a lot of people think that even bringing up bad side effects is “shaming”, others think that only weak people are harmed by it, or that you must also hate sex workers because of it. 🤷‍♀️

I have a hard time parsing through this cause I can't tell how much of it is porn, or how much porn is imbued with the meaning of failure by our society, and thus gets disproportionately blamed for issues?

Yeah it is hard to delineate as there are a lot of other factors coming together, but hard for me to imagine porn itself isn't a player. Sometimes the link is a bit more clear, like rising rates of erectile dysfunction in young men. Even then, hard to prove direct causation.

I tend to agree with this - I think it's just an easy scapegoat. The linked image from Sarah seems like the equivalent of saying "the existence of candy is why you're fat". People have agency. I'd guess there are a lot of confounding variables.
