I am lucky to have never been depressed/chronically anxious; never had to take SSRIs or anti-anxiety meds. The older I get, the more I value this, and "happy/chill" gets bumped up in the stack of genes I'd like to procreate with

(tbf I did have about 1.5 years of more frequent anxiety from what i suspect was a gut issue, but it's mostly resolved now!)

More correct to say epigenetic. People need to start being clued up on the idea of complex diseases because the diseases society talks most about are called complex diseases. Purely genetic diseases are rare.

Oh wow! Did you mention in a tweet before that you’re autistic? If so, that’s interesting that you’ve never experienced chronic anxiety or depression since it’s so common esp with sensory sensitivities. I don’t take meds but love 420 and consider that medicine 🌿

I feel like people don't consider nearly often enough which genes are worth procreating with. Not joking.

Not to be the tone police, but this is one of those things that is your business to believe but kind of shitty to say aloud.

The weird thing is that most of the best people I know suffer from depression

SSRIs are pretty great as a tool to give someone to alleviate suffering while they take up psychotherapy.
Working through difficult things takes a lot of time; and more over, sometimes you need to kickstart positive development by taking away some of the pain.
