Ppl are saying stuff like this but replace honesty with any other good quality and it sounds ridiculous. "Its ok to be a lil mean, otherwise you will fundamentally mislead your children about the nature of reality by making them expect compulsive kindness from authority"

Doesn’t sound ridiculous, and seems common. Parents are very often not maximally “nice,” partly in order to prepare kids for real world.

Children can experience all the unkindness and dishonesty, any sadist or an apologist for bullshit, thinks they "need" to "learn", just by walking out the front door. It doesn't have to begin at home. Home is the place they should be (and can be) safe from all of that.
