Ppl are saying stuff like this but replace honesty with any other good quality and it sounds ridiculous. "Its ok to be a lil mean, otherwise you will fundamentally mislead your children about the nature of reality by making them expect compulsive kindness from authority"

Every parent is a little mean to their children from time to time. Kids are very annoying! Your kids should know that you are a human being with emotions like them. Lying to kids is also inevitable and good. Kids need to learn that their models of the world are wrong.

Yeah I don’t get how it teaches them about the world. The world will lie to them plenty anyway, but some people are still trustworthy and tell the truth in spite of this. Lying just teaches kids not to trust you in particular.
