this is honestly such a hard choice, I think I’ll do no but explain why they might want to pretend it’s real to their friends

yeah this is what my parents did, they said no santa's not real but you might meet some kids who think santa's real and you're not supposed to tell them otherwise
(i only met a few other kids who believed in santa and yes i debated them about it)

Yes, absolutely. I respect them for it. My parents fucked up in a lot of ways but they had a strong principle of never lying to me, and I think this was a really good move. It set in stone early the value of believing and reporting true things.
I had a problem growing up with adults who would "lie" to me (Teachers & other not parents)
Goofy stuff like Santa didn't count. I got pissed when I found out about disinformation re how things work
