This is in the category of "good is invisible" things; if the point of a modification is to not be noticed, then modifications that get noticed are by definition failures. Good plastic surgery just looks hot, good makeup is just pretty, passing trans women just look like women.

There's a lot of discourse right now about how men prefer women without make up. I'm sceptical. I think they prefer women without obvious, unflattering & badly applied make up. But good make up? The increased compliments "you look nice today!" & attention tell a different story.

Other things that work like this: marketing, charisma, networking, even just having money In all these cases the word brings to mind the noticeable, cringe, badly done version, but they are at their most powerful when they do not get noticed and are therefore not named

We evolved to natually have attraction to facial features, and arrangements of these features, that lie within certain limits of variability. Light make up consists of small, non-drastic, positive enhancements, which are easy to apply

This seems like it's missing something fundamental. There's two things I can imagine: 1) You're fooling me, and it seems like I'm attracted until I realize it's ruse. 2) I actually am attracted but have some issues with that.

Any thoughts on why women seem to assume men do not know what women look like without makeup or confuse what natural makeup is versus genuine no-makeup? I feel that any man being in a relationship with a woman will find out what no-makeup actually looks like very quickly.
