some of the online trans ppl can get insane, and I fear their disproportionately high visibility is ruining it for the rest. In my personal life I know a lot of trans ppl who are really reasonable, self reflective, and compassionate, and wish they were the more visible ones!

I'm not shy about my opinions on medically transitioning minors or coercing "correct" pronouns for people who appear to take advantage of good faith inclusion efforts to victimize vulnerable people & I've kinda had to accept that the worst nuts dictate what is considered bigotry

That said, this doesn't seem unique to the trans issue. This seems to be the shape of modern activism in general, particularly progressive activism, although it might only appear that way because progressive activism gets to call most of the cultural shots

I think a big part of it is that anti-trans people put focus on the crazy ones that reinforce their narrative and you have to be a certain kind of crazy to want to be a well-known trans person online, to actually chase clout, given the sheer amount of shit you’re likely to get.
