You'd rather have a

b) tiny shard of an actual fossil

I think it would depend entirely on what the fossil was and why I cared about it. :/

I think basically all actual fossils should be in museums, no matter how small/incomplete/common they are.

Who are these maniacs who want a tiny shard of an actual fossil? Informationally the perfect reconstruction would be much rarer and cooler

I have trilobite. But I am not sure if actual fossil or just gypsum casting.

The tiny shard probably takes up less space, so I'll take that one if I can't opt out of this.

In elementary school we went on a field trip to a place where you could mine fossils, everyone got one.
