As a socially progressive slut/sex worker/moral nihilist, I am very pro abortion. I grew up among anti-abortion acitivsts - for example, my mom once spent time in jail for blocking abortion clinic doors. I think those people are wrong, but I also understand their views. 1/

And that... really sucks, cause what do you do about it? It's not an easy argument, and it's probably why the abortion issue has become a decisive issue in a lot of areas; conservative people are slowly changing in many ways, but it seems like they're stable re: abortion.

This is why I tweeted that states should have more control; I sort of want all the anti-abortion people to go shush off over in a state or two somewhere and not spend their activism at those who don't believe fetuses are people.

Weird. Roughly 30 min ago I made this comparison, to my wife. I’m pro-abortion as well, but get frustrated when people either pretend to, or generally don’t understand/won’t accept the anti ppl’s earnest concern. That said, anti ppl do the same & have blinders on re:harms/reality

The American debate is broken. “Pro choice”: Abortion is OK until birth. “Pro life”: Abortion is never ok. In sane northern Europe there’s a limit at 12-16 weeks, and no debate.

No, this is wrong. This framework doesn't hold up to the slightest scrutiny. Because these same people have absolutely ZERO interest in ensuring the health of mothers and babies. The second the fetus is out of the womb they don't give a shit about its life. It's about control.

Imagine a conservative court ruling on Roe vs. Wade and guaranteeing abortion rights without issue, then later having that issue seized upon by opportunists who could no longer stir up fear with bussing/desegregation. How absurd and selfish is that?

That is the kind of comparison the right wants to use as a basis for arguing against abortion, but they are not even close to the same. We have to get away from the idea that all arguments are created equal. They are not.
