I actually published a paper on this last month, which I think helps by disentangling consciousness-as-self-reference and consciousness-as-property. The former is obvious and undeniable, but we eliminativists deny the latter. Happy to discuss on a call. jacyanthis.com/Consciousness_

I’d agree but to be fair there are lots of examples where some problem seems blindingly obviously substantial until it suddenly gets dissolved e.g Hume and the “self”
I tend to think it doesn’t. Perhaps we have a conceptual problem instead. We find it hard to identify subjective experience with physical states. We have a long history of believing in souls. Maybe our cognitive tools are not suitable to apprehend the subjective aspect of it.
