to me the hard problem of consciousness feels like newcomb's box problem; it seems really obvious/simple to me and the other people are doing some bizarre overthinking mental moves

I tend to think it doesn’t. Perhaps we have a conceptual problem instead. We find it hard to identify subjective experience with physical states. We have a long history of believing in souls. Maybe our cognitive tools are not suitable to apprehend the subjective aspect of it.
