Exactly. If you depend on federal grants for research, you'll be under pressure to ask only the questions, & to report only the answers, that your gov't finds acceptable.
Contrast this to the huge range of questions can ask any given week in her Twitter polls.

ya Idk what academia is like but I got funded from a private dude to go research whatever tf I want. I just sit in my house all day thinking about how to structure surveys. It's incredible.
