I'm having that classic aging thing happen of not knowing how to find and make friends, really. I feel like I need to be put into the same place as someone else for it to work, but it feels weird to call someone up and be like hey let's hang out 2-3x a week till we're friends ok?

I've done a lot of fun experimental bonding stuff with people which has definitely resulted in friends, but the problem is my circles and I are all super mobile and all my friends are spread out across the globe now

Social dancing. Preferably swing or Lindy. Keep showing up, you'll make friends.

I have social danced a lot before and didn't really end up making friends from it. Everyone else already had their own friend group!

In my experience, if one puts at least 15% as much effort into making a friend as into courting a mate, you'll make friends.
But most people seem to put about 3% as much effort into friendships as into sexual relationships....

This is why it’s easy for kids to make friends with classmates, and many adults primarily socialize with people they work with. Regular exposure is key, and if you don’t have those social zones, it’s really tricky to create.

Join an activity group or discussion (eg online forum) group. The more public and ubiquitous the forum the more awkward it might seem to somewhat arbitrarily single someone out specifically
