But like, one of my exes came from a similar level of religious oppression to me, and he was from a medium-strict muslim family
I'm absolutely not thinking only of christian fundamentalism here

I find my own experience useful to try to communicate exactly how the cultural conservatism was directly enabled by religion, it's not like a separate fluke. But the general thing applies to religions all over the world, and I don't think they're separate flukes either.

I absolutely see fundamentalist christianity as roughly similar to median islam or various forms of hinduism, basically anywhere religion is taken seriously
