ordered an expensive thing on etsy a real long time ago; i went to check on it and saw it hadn't been shipped, and that it was coming from ukraine. I requested a cancellation, and the seller sent a message like 'we are getting bombed by the russians can u wait till they stop'

My feeling is, if I want to donate money to help ukraine, doing it to a completely random person through etsy isn't the way to do it

I thought you said Etsy which is a marketplace for artists and handmade items so not a completely random person but an artist you wanted to buy art from? I mean, you do you but you sound like the person who wants their DVD back from the neighbor whose house just burnt down.
